Peer-Mentor Jamaika-Rose’s Story

Peer-mentor Jamaika-Rose wants to share her story as a Bungandidj woman, a sister, an aunty, a daughter, a grand daughter and a friend.

 

” My name is Jamaika-Rose and I am a Bungadidj woman. I am a sister, an aunty, a daughter, a grand daughter and a friend. I do BMX and I like construction. I am supportive, polite and always there for others. I care about my family and friends and helping others. From Rize Above I have learnt that you have to look after yourself to look after your friends and it’s okay to not be okay. Sometimes there are negatives in our lives but that doesn’t define us I am proud of what I have achieved and know that it’s okay that people walked away. If I was to tell my younger self one thing it would be to not worry about others because you are your own person.”

Acknowledgement of Country


The contribution of Aboriginal Australians has shaped our knowledge of the country and our identity. All Australians benefit from the generosity of Aboriginal people sharing their Country and their culture.

We also recognise the continuous intergenerational impact of the history of invasion, policies and legislation.
